Promises of Saint Michael

Whosoever would practice this devotion in his honor, before receiving Holy Communion, would have an escort of nine angels chosen from each one of the nine choirs.
In addition, for the daily recital of these nine salutations, he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life, and after death, deliverance from purgatory for themselves and their relations.

Historical Background

The chaplet's historical roots can be traced to the 18th century, when the Portuguese Carmelite nun, Servant of God Antonia d’Astonac, received a vision of St. Michael the Archangel. In this vision, St. Michael encouraged Antonia to offer nine salutations to the nine Choirs of Angels, assuring protection and the care of an angel from each Choir. Those who faithfully recite the chaplet daily receive the promised protection of St. Michael and the angels throughout their earthly life and beyond. Pope Pius officially approved Antonia’s vision and the Chaplet of St. Michael in 1851.
