The Scapular Medal can be worn in place of the cloth scapular after receiving the scapular and being enrolled in the appropriate confraternity. It carries the same spiritual benefits as the traditional scapulars, including protection and indulgences granted by the Church.
Any Catholic who has been invested in a scapular can wear the Scapular Medal. However, it must still be properly blessed and replace the cloth scapular in specific circumstances, such as for health reasons or because of lifestyle limitations.

ABOUT THE SCAPULAR MEDAL

In 1910, Pope Saint Pius X allowed the Scapular Medal to replace the wool scapular. After joining the Carmelite fraternity with the regular scapular, one can wear the medal instead. The Scapular Medal features a depiction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the front and an image of the Virgin Mary on the reverse, specifically representing Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Just like the traditional scapular, wearing the Scapular Medal is seen as an outward sign of devotion and consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary, particularly under her title as Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
